How-to: Schedule An Upcoming Live Broadcast

Welcome to our easy-to-follow guide to scheduling broadcasts with Mixlr. This tutorial shows you how to schedule and broadcast your live audio broadcasts. It’s a good idea to schedule your live broadcast, as it gives listeners a chance to put aside time to tune in. Mixlr makes scheduling easy. This tutorial will step through the whole process from scheduling to archiving.

1 Scheduling a broadcast

The easiest way to schedule a live broadcast is via the broadcast application.

On the home page, click Schedule.

This will open up the new schedule broadcast page on the Mixlr website (as long as you are logged in on the website).

Here you can add details about your upcoming broadcast such as the title, up to 5 tags, a brief description, and location of your broadcast. You must also set the time of your broadcast.

Hot Tip: Choosing the right tags for your broadcast is important for attracting the right kind of listeners to your broadcast.

Hot Tip: Ensure that your timezone is correct. You can change your timezone for your account by editing your Mixlr profile. If you are doing a one off broadcast from a different timezone to your default, this can be set when creating your new broadcast.

Once you have created your scheduled broadcast you will then be directed to a scheduled broadcast page, detailing your upcoming broadcast This URL can be used before, during and after the broadcast.

You can manually promote your broadcast using the Link or Short Twitter Link, or use the facebook and twitter buttons to easily promote your broadcast on social networks.

Visitors to your scheduled broadcast page can set a reminder for your broadcast by clicking Remind Me. Mixlr will send the listener an email when you start your broadcast.

2 Broadcasting your scheduled broadcast

When the time comes for you to start your live audio broadcast, open the broadcast application and click on Setup Broadcast...

Having configured your audio settings, you should find your scheduled broadcast in the Scheduled Broadcast drop-down. Select your broadcast, and click Broadcast Now...

At this point you are given the opportunity to create a test broadcast. If you are happy to start broadcasting click Start now

Hot Tip: Test broadcasts, allow you to test your setup without your broadcast being advertised on the newsfeed and live twitterfeed. You can check your setup is working by visiting your live page. They are perfect for quick sound checks.

You are now broadcasting live on Mixlr. The scheduled broadcast URL will now be pointing at your live page.

Live_no_comments

As with the scheduled broadcast page, visitors can easily promote your broadcast using the facebook and twitter buttons.

Listeners can also give you real-time feedback on your broadcast, by adding a comment using their Mixlr, facebook or twitter accounts.

You can add and receive comments via the broadcast application.

3 Saving your broadcast

When you want to end your broadcast, you can click Stop and save to stop the broadcast and save it on Mixlr, or Stop and delete to stop the broadcast and remove the broadcast completely.

If you choose to save your broadcast, an archived copy of your broadcast can be found using the same scheduled broadcast URL. The archived version also stores and displays any comments that were added during the broadcast, and of course includes facebook and twitter buttons for ease of sharing.
